If a family member comes to you now with a story that some might find bizarre, you'll still give them the benefit of the doubt and do what you can to help. Just this once, though, you might want to have someone go over the details with you. Truth may be stranger than fiction, but an unbiased third party will be able to tell you if it really is all that strange.
