You are not quite in sync with the people you'll be working with, so you'll have to be extra careful about clarifying what you mean when you speak. Nonverbal communication won't be much of a help. In fact, it could be more of a distraction as far as these particular people are concerned. Avoid email if at all possible. Conversations that are in person or over the phone stand a much better chance of being successful.
